To: All Members, Supporters and Friends,

For the 27th Annual Crystal River Family Funament, we had 18 boats / families and 65 people who attended.  Our focus was to snorkel for Scallops and to fish for Redfish and Trout.  The Scallops were larger and more plentiful this year then in the past.  More then half of our members collected their limit of Scallops everyday. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning, all boats headed out to find Scallops in the Gulf.  At the end of the day Friday, we return to the Plantation Inn for Pizza, Captains Meeting and Bingo Party. John Murch with Garmin International came to our Captains Meeting and spoke to us about the new Garmin Marine electronics.  He gave us an excellent presentation.  Then we had our traditional Bingo Party.  This year we played nineteen games and gave to our bingo winners some really cool prizes.  On Saturday, we loaded a pontoon boat with “Fat Boys BBQ’, beverages, Funament and Children’s awards and headed to the King Springs area for a Raft-Off.  After serving a BBQ meal and giving out the awards, we had our Super Squirt Gun Fight.  No members are safe from this activity!  Below are the results of our Funament. Please click on our website to see the awesome pictures of the Funament.  It was a great time this year!

Jim and Martha Costa
The Costa took the Morgan and Rowel Families to the Gulf for their first Scalloping trip. They brought in 5 gallons of Scallops

Bryan and Lori Smith
Paul and Robin maxed out their limit of Scallops on Thursday and Friday. A big thank you goes out to Rose for being our Funament Photographer.  She took 238 pictures of the Funament.  Our “Boat Fun” (231 Mako CC) was in the shop getting a new power head. So, Lori and I rode on the “Line Dancer” and collected 3 gallons of scallops for us on Friday.

“North Bound”
Bill, Deb, Kyle and Kevin North
Jennifer Smith
The North family maxed out their limit for Scallops on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  They won the Scallop Award.
Kyle North “The Record Winner” brought to the boat, on one snorkeling trip, 265 Scallops in one bag. J How do we know this fact? Because Kyle counts every individual Scallop he catch’s and keeps record of it.  Jennifer took the Sea-Doo Seascooter, covered the grass flats and hunted for her own scallops.

“Little Xtreme”
17 Boston Whaler CC
Paula, and Chris McGrath
Dave Kanwisher and Stacy Gounaris
Brian Clarke and Kira
I was told the by Captain Paula that she caught a lot of Scallops but Chris did not catch as many as she did. I thought I saw Chris in the water more then Paula? Also, Paula and Chris won the “Most Honored SOB Award” (Some Other Brand), because they have brought a lot of new members to our club.

“Mako Me Crazy”

Mike McKinnie and Cathie O’Brien
Mike and Cathy were awarded the “Best Looking Mako Award” for the Funament.  In addition, Cathy bought Mike new snorkeling equipment a sent him out over the grass flats to look for the Scallops. I heard Mike brought his bag back full for every trip. However, for this trip Cathie was named our “Most Advanced Scalloper” because she has been practicing all year in their pool to perfect her advanced snorkeling skills.

“B-Hive”

The Huffman family has been coming to the Crystal River Funaments longer the any of our members.  Not only did they catch their limit for Scallops they also caught a Redfish and three trout.  Beth, again thank you for your help with Bingo.

“Patti-Mar”
230 Mako CC
Jim, and Patti Krick
Kelleigh Lederman and Captain Ryan
The Patti-Mar caught their limit everyday they went out and Scalloped.  However, I think next year we are going to have to give Jim “Bingo Flash Cards” before the Bingo Game so he can visually see the type of game we are playing.  Ha! Ha!

This was the Morgan Family first Crystal River Funament.  Jim and Martha Costa took them out on the Ann Marie and helped them find their first scallops. We look forward to see them again next year.

Rowell Family

This was the Rowell Family second Crystal River Funament.  We always like to see them at our Funaments. I know they caught Scallops with the McGuire family on their boat. On Saturday, they rented two boats and took the Morgan Family to snorkel “Three Sisters Springs”.

“Two Reel”

Bernie and BA rode with the McGrath’s on the “Little Xtreme” on Friday to snorkel for Scallops.  This was their first time to look for Scallops.  They were told by Capt. Paula ‘Not to return to the boat with out a full bag or they were swimming home!’.  They were very motivated Scallopers and later were allowed to return to the boat for their ride home. Thank you again Bernie, for donating your custom built rods for our Bingo night.
